The Tukwila Community Center will open its doors once again on Thursday, May 29, following an unforeseen closure caused by a pipe that burst and led to flooding. Tukwila Parks & Recreation announced the reopening, detailing that while the center will resume operation, certain areas will remain off-limits for the time being, according to the City of Tukwila.
For those planning to visit, the community center will maintain hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. A statement provided to the public promises future updates on operations. However, spaces such as the TCC Lobby, Teen Room, and various meeting and fitness rooms won't be available until further notice, as reported by the City of Tukwila.
Yet the center has found a way to rally, sidestepping floodwaters to host several recreation programs within the gym. The City of Tukwila official website lays out a schedule that includes activities like "Silver Sneakers," "Pickleball with a Firefighter," and "Group Power," with an entrance directive for participants to approach from the east, near the Softball Field.
Additional offerings will be housed in the west wing, where preschool, senior strength classes, and other activities will be ongoing. Visitors should take note, the specific entry point for these sessions is on that end of the community center. To keep abreast of developments and program details, the public can refer to Tukwila Parks & Recreation's website, and are encouraged to follow updates on social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Nextdoor, as per the City of Tukwila.
