A Turlock man has been sentenced to over 15 years in federal prison for the crime of transporting a minor across state lines with the intention of engaging in criminal sexual activity. On Tuesday, 28-year-old Cristian Ceja received a sentence of 15 years and 8 months, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. The case originated in August 2023, when the disappearance of a minor from Turlock's 200 block of F Street was reported to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit.
The investigation into the missing minor stalled initially, due to limited leads. However, a critical breakthrough took place when the minor, who had vanished several months before, reached out to a family member through social media. The minor revealed a desire to escape her current predicament, but expressed that she was trapped. Acting on this vital clue, detectives managed to trace her location to a remote area in Kamiah, Idaho. There, the victim was found on January 3, 2024, in a camper trailer with no heat or running water by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, with the victim being recovered safely at the scene, as reported by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office.
Ceja was apprehended at the location and extradited back to Stanislaus County the next day. The investigation provided evidence that Ceja had taken the victim from her Turlock residence and transported her to Idaho. The cooperation and coordination between various agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, and the prosecuting Assistant U.S. Attorney Shea Kenny, were highlighted by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office as key to the resolution of this case.
