The persistent scourge of human trafficking continues to grip the Twin Cities, but local law enforcement is not standing idle. According to an official statement published by the Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD), detectives from their department have engaged in 36 sting operations since 2016, resulting in the arrest of 375 individuals on charges related to human trafficking. These efforts underscore a broader commitment to addressing this heinous crime, extending support to the 117 victims they have connected with resources such as treatment, housing, jobs, and life skills.

Collaboration has been a key, as the EPPD has worked hand in hand with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to conduct sting operations. The “494 Corridor Group”—consisting of police from Bloomington, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Plymouth, and Richfield- places its focus primarily on crimes of human trafficking along Interstate 494.

There is an avenue for community participation as well. Residents are encouraged to take part in the Stop the Trafficking 5K Walk/Run for Justice. This event provides individuals an opportunity to stand in solidarity against this global issue. The 5K can be attended in-person on June 14 at Purgatory Creek Park or virtually from June 14–22, a timeframe that allows for wider participation in the fight for justice.
