A violent afternoon in north Charlotte has left two individuals with life-threatening injuries following a shooting incident, according to WCCB Charlotte. The event occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Stroud Park Court, a residential area close to Oaklawn Avenue and the Ivory/Baker Recreation Center.
Local residents expressed their shock over the incident; one neighbor, who preferred anonymity, lamented the disruption of a usually peaceful Memorial weekend, stating to WCCB Charlotte, "It’s Memorial weekend. Families are home trying to enjoy the holiday. And then you hear all this noise. You know, how can you come out of your house thinking you’re safe? It’s not right.” A report from WCNC Charlotte highlighted a significant police presence at the scene with over a dozen police cars and one individual in handcuffs.
Witness accounts to WBTV describe hearing around a dozen gunshots, while local resident Cynthia Gray stated, "I wasn’t sure if it was firecrackers or gunshots," and went on to say, "It was sad, everybody was crying and then medics came and rushed them off." WCNC Charlotte's coverage conveyed that neighbors heard "dozens of gunshots" and saw a significant amount of blood at one of the houses.
