
In a span of 12 hours, Kalamazoo witnessed a harrowing sequence of gunfire resulting in two fatalities and one non-fatal injury. At approximately 7:28 p.m. on Tuesday, an 18-year-old was grazed by a bullet while returning home on a scooter. The incident occurred on the 1400 block of N. Rose Street, prompting several 911 calls about gunshots in the area. The teen victim declined medical treatment and was unable to provide details on the assailant, as reported by WOODTV. Despite the police's efforts, no shell casings were found, and no arrests have been made to date.
Later the same night, a second shooting took place shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, near Riverview Drive and East Paterson Street. Authorities found a 42-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen. Despite attempts to save the individual, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m. at a local hospital. WZZM 13 confirmed that shell casings were recovered from the scene, and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is actively seeking to apprehend the identified suspect.
Another fatal shooting, which marked the first of the trio, occurred at Canterbury House Apartments in Oshtemo Township. Dequevion Markuise Brown, a 29-year-old from Kalamazoo, was found unresponsive inside an apartment building on Tuesday afternoon. Neighbors had reported hearing a gunshot prior to the grim discovery. In this separate case, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with information to come forward, detailed in a statement obtained by MLive.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the County Sheriff's Office are investigating the North Rose Street shooting and are asking for the public’s help.
