Early this morning, the San Antonio Fire Department faced a significant challenge as flames engulfed multiple homes on the West Side. According to KTSA, the incident occurred on the 2200 block of El Paso Street around 5:15 a.m., where firefighters confronted three houses and a car ablaze. Despite their efforts, two residences were destroyed, and a third was damaged.
The origin of this destructive blaze began in a vacant house, a place reportedly known to shelter individuals experiencing homelessness. From there, the fire swiftly moved to a neighboring home, where it upended the lives of two individuals, as the Red Cross stepped in to provide temporary shelter. The call for help quickly brought crews to the scene, highlighting their constant readiness for unexpected emergencies in the community.
As reported by KSAT, the homeowners of the second house managed to escape unharmed, though their residence was completely destroyed. While the first house was also a total loss, firefighters successfully protected the third property, which sustained only minor damage. Its residents, who were not present during the fire, returned to find their home affected but still intact. The San Antonio Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire as the community copes with the aftermath.
