Two arrests have been made as a result of a recent police standoff at a smoke shop in Socorro, Texas. Following the discovery of a beaten and unconscious man in the street, Socorro Police Department officers confronted 24-year-old Edgar Allen Marquez, who subsequently barricaded himself within Valley Smoke Shop, located at 9993 Alameda Ave, as reported by the El Paso Times.

Early on Tuesday morning, at approximately 1:44 a.m., officers on the scene found the victim, a 23-year-old male, presenting injuries consistent with an assault. The El Paso Times indicates, the suspect, later identified as Marquez, fled into the nearby smoke shop, prompting a police standoff. In addition to Marquez's arrest for assault, Bryanna Chantal Salas, age 20, was taken into custody on a warrant for the manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. She is currently being held under a $15,000 bond.

The sequence of events began when Socorro police endeavored to make contact with the suspect after the assault victim was discovered on the 900 block of Alameda Avenue, "looking like he had been assaulted," according to KFOX-TV. The suspect managed to evade initial capture by entering and fortifying himself inside The Valley Smoke Shop, the same block as the incident.

Officials then acquired a search warrant to enter the business. The raid resulted in several detentions, including that of Marquez, who was charged with assault causing bodily injury and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond set at $10,000, as detailed by KVIA. As per jail records revealed by the El Paso Times, Marquez had posted the surety bond by Wednesday morning, with release procedures still pending at that time.
