Two people were recently caught by police after trying to break into a business in Hillsborough, North Carolina. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said deputies quickly responded last Thursday when a business owner on NC Highway 86 South called 911 after seeing the break-in on his security cameras. When deputies arrived, they saw a silver Ford Focus speeding away. The car, which had also been stolen, crashed about 2.7 miles down the road.
The chaos ended with one suspect caught and the other fleeing. Kharla Aparicio, 22, of Durham, was arrested at the scene and now faces several charges, including felony theft and drug possession. Her alleged accomplice, Erlin Lopez, 24, also of Durham, escaped. Police are still searching for him and have issued six felony warrants for his arrest, according to a Facebook post by the Orange County Sheriff's Office - North Carolina.
While Aparicio sits in detention with a $20,000 bond, the hunt continues for Lopez. Last seen in attire suited more to a laid-back lounge than a high-stakes chase—gray pajama pants and a hoodie—the runaway left behind a morbid breadcrumb trail. Authorities, equipped with a K9 unit and drone technology, found evidence of copious bleeding in the wake of his desperate flight. The Sheriff's office urges anyone with information on Lopez's whereabouts to call 911 immediately.
