A startling street race involving two underage drivers ended with citations and a stark reminder of roadway dangers in Volusia County. According to ClickOrlando, a 12-year-old boy was handcuffed and cited for driving without a license after being caught racing a 17-year-old along Dahlia Road and West Parkway. Sheriff’s deputies pulled over the vehicles on Tuesday, uncovering this reckless episode.
In the incident, captured on a deputy's body camera, the adolescent gauntlet was thrown, and two youngsters were confronted in a manner suggesting they met not simply another vehicle but a reckoning. "What was that racing b******t?" demanded the deputy, accosting the 17-year-old, who was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla, imbuing the moment with the gravity of their actions, reported by ClickOrlando.
Meanwhile, the Volusia County deputy found additional passengers riding with the 12-year-old in the red Nissan, as detailed in coverage from WESH. In a similar vein, body camera footage from the scene showed the deputy directing the preteen to exit the Nissan and placing him in handcuffs.
Video evidence and interviews with the deputy and parents later surfaced on social media, posted by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Mike Chitwood. Both drivers received citations for racing on a highway and were told they would face court appearances.
