The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter in Lavonia has reached maximum capacity and is urgently calling for immediate dog adoptions. At least 10 dogs must be adopted or placed in rescue homes by the end of the business day on May 30 to avoid the possibility of euthanasia, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
"We are over capacity with dogs and have to make some difficult decisions if we do not get at least ten dogs out before 4:00," the shelter announced in a public appeal, as detailed by FOX 5 Atlanta. Walking with the weight of potential loss, shelter staff are contending with the stark reality of their limitations in space. To avert this dire outcome, the shelter is offering reduced adoption fees through Friday, in hopes of encouraging community members to open their homes to these animals in need.
According to a report from Now Habersham, the shelter's adoption fees have been set at $50 for puppies and $40 for adult dogs, which also applies to spayed or neutered animals. This temporary reduction is intended to facilitate faster adoptions. Interested parties are encouraged to make a meaningful difference by adopting a pet, thereby saving it from the brink of an unwanted fate. Cats and kittens are also available for adoption at a fee of $45, with all adoptions including basic veterinary care.
Located at 870 Bear Creek Road, and open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, the shelter has made an appeal to local animal lovers and rescue organizations to take swift action. Offering a glimpse into the lives of these adoptable pets, photos and additional information can be found on the shelter’s Facebook page, listed under Friends of Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter – Lavonia, GA. Surrounded by the chatter of hopeful dogs and concerned staff, each click on their page is a chance at a fresh start for these furry residents.
