Chaos unfolded on the 1600 block of Fairgrounds Drive in Vallejo last Saturday as residents heard what they described as multiple gunshots. At around 8:43 PM, Vallejo Police Department (VPD) patrols were dispatched to the scene, where they found an adult female with a gunshot injury. According to the VPD's social media post, officers provided first aid until paramedics could take over, eventually rushing her to a local hospital for treatment.

In a twist of events, another adult female presented herself at a separate local hospital, also with a gunshot wound. Both victims were lucky to survive, with their injuries declared non-life-threatening. During the initial response, Vallejo Police were assisted by the Solano County Sheriff's Office, Benicia Police Department, American Canyon Police Department, and a California Highway Patrol (CHP) Air Unit in a collaborative show of force.

The CHP Air Unit played a crucial role by spotting a vehicle speeding away from the site of the shooting. This led to the discovery of a male suspect, Marquese Alvin Roberts, attempting to conceal a firearm in bushes on the 200 block of Jill Lane. Roberts, a 35-year-old Vallejo resident, was swiftly arrested by American Canyon officers while VPD recovered the weapon. A subsequent records check unveiled a no-bail warrant for Roberts. “Gun violence has no place in our city,” said Vallejo Police Chief Ta, per the Vallejo Police Department. “We will continue to direct every available resource toward identifying those responsible and keeping our community safe.”

The VPD’s due diligence quickly revealed Roberts' identity, and the charges he faces include being a felon in possession of an unregistered firearm. Transported to the Solano County Jail, Roberts' apprehension marks a small victory for local law enforcement in their struggle against gun violence. Vallejo's officers were joined by the Patrol Neighborhood Impact Team, which the department activates for serious cases like this one. Detective Jaleesa Bradshaw leads the investigation, and VPD encourages anyone with information to contact her at (707) 648-4524 or through email at [email protected].
