Memorial Day serves a special purpose in the roster of patriotic holidays across the United States, and Vineland City is no exception. Unlike other celebrations that may encompass a broader range of sentiments, Memorial Day zeroes in on the gravity of the ultimate sacrifices made by military service members. In a recent social media post by Vineland City, they emphasized the uniqueness of this observance, stating, "On this day, we focus our hearts and thoughts specifically on those who gave their lives in service to our country."
The city's post marked the weight of over one million American lives lost in combat and the consequent freedoms citizens continue to enjoy. "We owe them our appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy today, including the right to free speech, the opportunity to vote for our leaders, and the liberty to worship freely," Vineland City's post read. In honor of this tradition, Vineland, in partnership with the United Veteran’s Council, will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony tomorrow starting at 9:00 AM.
The parade is set to commence at the corner of Landis Avenue and Myrtle Streets, moving toward the Boulevard before heading north to Landis Park Veterans Circle. However, should the weather turn sour, plans have been set for the parade to be canceled and the ceremony moved indoors to the Vineland City Council Chambers at 10:00 AM. After the ceremony, fellowship resumes at the local Semper Marine Detachment headquarters with hot dogs and light refreshments.
