As the sun dials its heat upwards, Washington County Library is gearing up to combat summer brain drain with an array of activities designed for community members of every age. Starting on June 1st and stretching through August 16th, the library's summer programs intend to kindle the fires of literacy and learning during the school recess. Announced earlier this week, the diverse events range from read-alongs for tots to culinary adventures for teens, aiming to encourage lifelong learning well beyond the summer months.
For the young astronauts-in-training, Summer Adventure offers a space to gravitate toward books with an extraterrestrial guide named Zorb at their side. Whether they're reading, listening, or embarking on experiences molded by their unique curiosities, this program suits children aged 0-11. Teens, not to be left adrift, can "Level Up!" with a video game-themed agenda that promotes not just literacy, but also the mingling of gaming with crafting and cooking, according to the Washington County Library's announcement.
Adults eagerly looking to join the fray will find solace in the 10,000 Experiences at Your Library program, offering a plethora of librarian-picked books to explore and community events worth attending. But the rewards don't end at expanding one's horizons; tangible prizes are up for taking once participants complete a program-specific game card.
Entertainment also finds its spot in the summer schedule with a lineup of popular performers such as The Bazillions and F1rst Wrestling. People interested are free to attend these events, though some may require prior registration. While creating these events, the library has ensured all activities aim to be accessible and inclusive, as per the information shared in the library's announcement.
This array of summertime happenings are made possible by Washington County Library in partnership with the Metropolitan Library Service Agency (MELSA). Additional support comes from various other local sponsors, including KARE 11 and the Minnesota Twins. Interested individuals can find a complete schedule of summer events at any library branch, or they can dodge the heat momentarily and connect online at the Washington County Library's website.
