Delonte Williams, an inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary Atwater from Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 33 months in prison for assault with a deadly weapon inside the facility. U.S. District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff issued the sentence on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
On April 28, 2024, Williams and another inmate assaulted a fellow inmate. Court documents state that Williams chased the victim around a cell block, carrying a jail-made knife. "Williams, along with another inmate, used his jail-made knife to stab the victim," the U.S. Attorney's Office reports. The victim was injured and required medical treatment.
Williams’ sentencing is part of a larger case involving his co-defendant, Jarvell Kent, who is scheduled to be sentenced on June 23, before the same judge. The case resulted from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Veneman-Hughes. Authorities have not provided details about the assault or the victim’s condition. The sentencing extends Williams’ time in prison, as stated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
