
The City of Olive Branch is set to welcome a new fire chief as the current leader, Johnny Eason, prepares to retire. In the announcement made by Mayor Ken Adams and the Board of Aldermen, William D. Clark II has been chosen to fill the role beginning June 1, after Eason's tenure comes to an end in May. This information comes courtesy of DeSoto County News.
Clark is a seasoned veteran in the field of firefighting, boasting over 32 years in service. His career spans back to the Lewisburg Fire Department where he currently serves as captain. It is reported by Action News 5 that his journey also includes time spent at the Memphis Fire Department where he has worked diligently to quickly rise through the ranks, eventually becoming a supervisor and battalion chief.
The retirement of Johnny Eason comes after more than 20 years leading the Olive Branch Fire Department, which under his guidance has grown to a team of 125 employees. This includes not just firefighters but EMS personnel and dispatchers, as well. DeSoto County News documented Eason’s significant contributions, highlighting the recent completion of a new Fire Administration Building to enhance the department's operations.
The succession seems to be to have been a thoughtful process by Mayor Adams and the Board, as alternative candidates were also considered before committing to appoint Clark. According to WREG News, the decision was made following a series of interviews, indicating the city's deliberate approach in choosing their fire department's new leadership.
