Wilmington Police have made a series of arrests on drug charges, apprehending six men as a result of an ongoing investigation. According to law enforcement, this operation began in April and culminated in the execution of a search warrant on the 1200 block of Read Street, netting a significant amount of illegal substances and cash.
On May 1, at around 2:38 p.m., officers conducted a raid, arresting 26-year-old Dale Womack, alongside 47-year-old Nathan Wilson, 29-year-old Michael Ewell, 47-year-old Tymir Johnson, 46-year-old Michael Crippen, and 18-year-old Zymire Reid, according to an announcement by the Wilmington Police Department. Confiscated in the raid were 61.25 grams of crack cocaine, 1.95 grams of heroin, and 69.78 grams of marijuana, including drug paraphernalia and $2,305 in cash. Conducted without incident, each individual faced varying charges all linked to the possession and intent to distribute controlled substances.
The most serious charges were levelled against Dale Womack, including "Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 3 Quantity" and "Tampering with Physical Evidence," among others. Womack's bail was set at a steep $44,500, payable in cash only, and he is currently held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. Facing similar charges of possession and intent to deliver, Nathan Wilson's bail was marginally lower at $42,500, also in cash.
Zymire Reid, the youngest among the group, was charged with offenses akin to his older counterparts, though his secured bail was set at $21,000, allowing for his release on bail terms. The disparity in bail amounts, particularly noticeable between individuals charged with comparable offenses, raises questions about the criteria used in determining bail figures. Having been discovered along with large quantities of cocaine and heroin, the group's arrest represents an intersection of law enforcement and community tribulations over drug proliferation.
The arraignments took place at the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, where Michael Ewell was released on a secured bail amounting to $21,500. Each person's charges encompass "Conspiracy (Second Degree)" and "Possession of Drug Paraphernalia," suggesting a coordinated effort in illicit drug activities. Tymir Johnson and Michael Crippen, sharing similar charges to their peers, faced $32,500 cash-only bail requirements for their release, as reported by the Wilmington Police Department.
