Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has launched a survey inviting public opinion to assess the adequacy of its current signage system and the potential need for improvements when the Keller Ferry, also known as the M/V Sanpoil, is out of service on State Route 21. According to the announcement, the existing signs can take up to three hours to be manually set up by WSDOT maintenance teams, causing considerable notification delays for drivers.

The inconvenience is further compounded by the extended detour routes required during such outages, this survey seeks to gather information on preferred methods of receiving outage alerts and views on existing signage effectiveness. The deadline for sharing feedback is slated for Wednesday, October 1, and it's underscored that the survey requires less than five minutes to complete, posing questions about the current signage and potential enhancements should funding be authorized.

Presently, no formal project is in the pipeline to upgrade or introduce new signs for the Keller Ferry's operational gaps, but community feedback from the survey may steer WSDOT towards considering such an investment. Alongside the survey, the Department's news release emphasized the intention is to use the results gathered to possibly secure funding for future signage upgrades.

Residents and frequent travelers on State Route 21 are encouraged to make their voices heard by participating in the survey.
