Yesterday, the Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI began investigating an audacious robbery of a Brinks armored truck on the 2500 block of Castor Avenue in Philadelphia’s Port Richmond neighborhood. As NBC Philadelphia reports, two individuals are being sought for the theft.
The incident escalated when a driver, operating the armored vehicle, stopped at a Home Depot on the 3700 block of East Thompson Street. It was there that two armed men, clothed entirely in black and wearing ski masks, confronted him. According to 6abc, these assailants managed to take away the driver’s firearm forcibly and abscond with at least $1.5 million in cash. Witnesses described the suspects fleeing in a black Hyundai heading west on East Thompson Street, attempting to disappear into the city's tapestry quickly.
No injuries were reported during the encounter, according to FOX 29. As the suspects remain at large, police continue to search thoroughly, while the FBI has confirmed its assistance in the ongoing investigation. In addition, authorities are exploring potential links to a similar incident that occurred on June 2 in Queens, New York, where another Brinks truck was targeted by armed robbers, resulting in the loss of $300,000 and a firearm. The parallel between these two events has not been overlooked by investigators searching for a pattern or possible connection.
