A tragic incident resulted in the loss of a young life after an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident occurred near Kingfisher. A 2-year-old child was killed after the ATV they were riding was swept from a low-water crossing into a creek, KOCO reported.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) stated that the vehicle, carrying three individuals, attempted to navigate through the crossing late yesterday afternoon when it was unexpectedly overtaken by the current. While the two other occupants, a 10-year-old and a 21-year-old, managed to evade injury, the efforts were fruitless together with the child, who was later found deceased. According to News9, the fatal wreck happened around 7 p.m. roughly four miles west of Kingfisher.
The search for the missing child began around 8 p.m. near Cemetery Road and proceeded for nearly two hours. Kingfisher County Emergency Management confirmed the recovery of the child's body from the creek last night. OKC Fox further detailed that the ATV was heading southbound on 2800 Road prior to the incident.
Located downstream after a massive search, officials had to contend with the currents to recover the toddler, spanning the area between N 2800 Road and Highway 81. With the remaining passengers separated from the vehicle by the water's force, it was unclear at the time of the events how they would emerge from the rushing creek. According to the OHP, the 2-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene following the fateful accident.
