Earlier today, Detroit's east side witnessed an industrial mishap when approximately 700 gallons of cooking oil destined for the Better Made Snack Foods factory were accidentally discharged onto the ground. According to ClickOnDetroit, the incident occurred near 10148 Gratiot Avenue during a routine delivery process with no reported injuries.
The spill occurred around 8:30 a.m. and involved a work truck and a tanker truck, as noted by WXYZ. In a small stroke of good fortune, officials confirmed that none of the oil entered the city's sewer system. The cleanup was handled by the trucking company responsible for the delivery, under the supervision of the Fire Marshal Division.
Detroit Fire Department's Engine 46 initially responded to the call, with the Fire Marshal Division also notified of the situation. The firefighters stayed on the scene until around 2:30 p.m. To manage the aftermath effectively, the remaining oil was scheduled to be transferred to a secondary tanker later in the afternoon, as reported by CBS Detroit.
