After a notable fourteen-year tenure as CEO, Alex Martins has decided to step down from leading the Orlando Magic, the team announced recently. The change atop the Magic corporate ladder will not see Martins stray far from the organization, as he's set to adopt the newly minted position of vice chair. According to WFTV, in this role, Martins will continue to "act as a senior advisor to the Orlando Magic Board of Directors."
Orlando Magic Chairman Dan DeVos highlighted Martins' contributions, stating, "Alex’s commitment to excellence has distinguished him as an extraordinary leader in our organization and the Orlando community." This sentiment was shared in a statement reported by WESH. Martins's decision to transition into another phase within the Magic’s hierarchy also opens the door for long-serving executive Charlie Freeman to take over the business operations. Freeman has been with the Magic for a reported thirty years.
Martin has been part of the Magic since 1989 and has served as CEO since 2011; his leadership has spanned the spectrum of the organization's affairs. He expressed gratitude for his experience as CEO, telling WESH, "Leading the Magic as CEO has been one of the greatest blessings of my life."
