Tragedy struck at an Anaheim motel on Saturday evening when a man in his 60s was fatally shot. The City of Anaheim's official announcement detailed that police and fire rescue teams were dispatched to the Villa Inn at 733 S Beach Blvd at approximately 6:12 p.m. upon reports of the incident. Despite paramedics' efforts to save him, the victim succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
Without delay, Anaheim Police identified and detained 59-year-old Anaheim resident Amir Karkehabadi at the scene. According to the same statement obtained by the City of Anaheim, after finding the victim with at least one gunshot wound, "Amir Karkehabadi was booked at the Anaheim Police Department on suspicion of murder." Informing that a handgun was located at the scene, the report confirmed that no other suspects are being sought in connection with the case.
Homicide detectives have since taken the lead on further probing into the events that led up to the fatal shooting, remaining tight-lipped about the relationship between the two individuals involved and the motive behind the shooting. The City of Anaheim has also stated that the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has verified the identity of the man who was killed, keeping the name under wraps until the family is notified. As the investigation continues, detectives have withheld additional information.
