Last night, an Angwin man, Luis Armando Alvarado, 54, was arrested after a standoff with sheriff's deputies lasting seven hours. According to a social media post from the Napa County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at around 8:45 PM following reports of a domestic disturbance on the 300 block of Tobin Avenue.
Alvarado is said to have discharged a firearm within the home before law enforcement arrived, causing residents to flee the house, with him remaining inside, barricaded. Responding deputies attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender. "Alvarado fired multiple rounds at deputies positioned on the perimeter," was stated in a release from the Napa County Sheriff's Office.
The confrontation escalated as tactical support, including the Napa County Sheriff's Office SWAT, Napa Police Department, Crisis Negotiation Team, and officers from the St. Helena Police Department, intervened. To ensure public safety, SWAT personnel evacuated nearby residents as the standoff continued.
Force, though less-lethal, was used when SWAT decided to deploy munitions into the residence, after which Alvarado was taken into custody around 4:00 AM. Arrested by the SWAT Team of the Napa County Sheriff's Office, Alvarado faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to a post by reporter Henry K. Lee. The Napa County Sheriff's Office credited all partnering agencies and the community for their help during the incident and expressed relief that no injuries were sustained among officers or residents.
