Wednesday night kicks off with a free Soul Line Dance Class at the downtown library, where no experience is necessary except a desire to move. But save some of that energy for the main event tomorrow, the 9th Annual Arlington Juneteenth Celebration at the Esports Stadium Arlington, where culture meets community in a vibrant blend of unity and celebration.
For music lovers, there's kind of a big deal happening at the Levitt Pavilion Saturday night. Big Sam's Funky Nation, a funk-jazz-rock-hip-hop fusion band, will be owning the stage – because sitting still isn't something they're particularly good at. Following is the always delightful opener, Audacity, who "hit the stage at 7:00 PM," according to the City of Arlington. If sitting still is more your style, Sunday's Family Field Day might be a strikeout. It takes over Globe Life Field with enough games and activities to tire out any World Series champ.
But there's more than just moving and shaking. Arlington is diving into the sports arena with the Concacaf Gold Cup at AT&T Stadium, where you can catch the United States versus Haiti game and witness the Dominican Republic take on Suriname. Tickets are up for grabs on SeatGeek, but they might as well throw them at you – soccer's that big of a deal. Over at Six Flags Over Texas, they're throwing a party called Summerbration, crammed with stunt shows and fireworks that would make even the most cynical teenager crack a smile.
Arlington's cultural scene isn't idling, either. The Arlington Museum of Art hosts the mind-boggling "M.C. Escher: Infinite Variations" exhibit, showcasing over 150 works that might just permanently tilt your perspective. And for those with little Smurfs of their own, there's the Smurf Experience, a hands-on mission-based extravaganza, featuring "interactive scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, virtual reality adventures," filled with Smurftastic fun, as per the City's announcements.
