Authorities in Montgomery County are on the lookout for a suspect who took an unconventional getaway vehicle to escape after robbing a gas station. Per a CBS News Philadelphia report, the man took off with an undisclosed sum of money on rollerblades following an armed robbery at the Lukoil gas station near Willow Grove Mall in Abington Township.
The incident occurred this past Sunday, and despite the unusual mode of transport, armed with a weapon, the thief was able to instill fear in the gas station clerk. Speaking to NBC10, the employee named Armman recounted the ordeal, saying, "I was terrified." He reported that the suspect threatened to shoot him in the chest if he did not comply with the demands for cash. Surveillance footage captured the suspect, blading briskly through the parking lot before entering the premises. After skating off, the suspect was last seen heading southbound on Old York Road.
The employee, thankfully unscathed physically, was nonetheless shaken by the encounter. According to 6abc, Armaan shared his chilling memory of the final moments, "When it's time for him to leave, he just showed me one more time a pistol and said, 'You are lucky guy.'" The police have made a point, calling on the public for any leads with Detective Andrew Ammaturo leading the charge at the Abington Township Police Department.
Currently, the investigation is still active, and the police urge anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to step forward. Potential witnesses can reach out to Detective Ammaturo at 267-536-1065 or communicate via email. No further details about the suspect or the amount of cash stolen have been released by the police, but they caution local businesses and residents to stay vigilant while they search for the rollerblading robber.
