The Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities Department has released its annual Drinking Water Quality Report, detailing the safety and treatment of the community’s water supply. According to the Athens-Clarke County website, more than 5 billion gallons of water were delivered in the past year, with daily testing to ensure compliance with national and state standards.

Also known as the Consumer Confidence Report, the document includes data from over 9,000 lab tests and 95,000 treatment process tests. These were conducted in accordance with regulations set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). If a substance does not appear in the test results table, it was not detected in the water.

Public Utilities Department Director Hollis Terry stated on www.accgov.com that transparency regarding drinking water quality remains a priority for the department.

The J.G. Beacham Drinking Water Treatment Plant received the Gold Award from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals for full compliance with all state and federal regulations, according to the Public Utilities Department.

The full Water Quality Report is available online. Printed summaries can also be requested by mail or picked up at the Water Conservation Office. For more information, residents can contact Water Conservation Coordinator Jackie Sherry.
