Austin's gateway to the heart of Mexico just got a major upgrade. Aeroméxico is stepping up with two flights daily from Austin to Mexico City from June 26 through August 18, according to an announcement on the City of Austin's official website. These additional flights, now totaling 14 per week, promise to ferry travelers in the comfort of the E190 jet, fitted with a relatively spacious 99-seat configuration.
"Flyers often comment on the comfortable seats, large windows, and quiet ride," the city's website boasts about the E190 experience. Culinary adventurers will find this expanded service especially tantalizing, as Mexico City is renowned for its diverse gastronomical offerings. From bustling food markets to elite restaurants like Rosetta, Quintonil, and Pujol, the promise of unforgettable tastes awaits. Guided tours offer insight and steer travelers towards local dishes, they might otherwise overlook.
The city itself is a tapestry where the threads of history and modernism intertwine. The ancient pyramids of Teotihuacán, a vestige of a bygone Mesoamerican civilization, stand within reach by public transit or guided tour. An optional hot air balloon ride provides a breathtaking sky-high perspective. The waterways of the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco offer another sort of journey, complete with vibrant boats and an intricate canal system.
Mexico City also fulfills the cravings of knowledge seekers and art enthusiasts. The Biblioteca Vasconcelos, with its futuristic design and expansive windows, invites visitors to explore one of Latin America's largest libraries. "Art lovers will also appreciate the Frida Kahlo Museum," added the city's blog post, where the iconic Casa Azul (Blue House) offers a window into the life of one of Mexico's most celebrated artists.
Whether Mexico City is the final stop or simply a launchpad into the wider realms of Latin America, the doubled flight service aims to streamline travel plans. Nonetheless, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport reminds travelers that it bears no responsibility for potential flight cancellations by the airline and advises passengers to stay abreast of any changes directly with Aeroméxico.
