An overnight procession honored a Baldwin Park police officer killed in a shootout with a murder suspect, as reported by ABC7. The tragic incident occurred Saturday evening, when officers responded to a 7:12 p.m. call about gunshots and a person down on the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers faced gunfire, leading to the injury of two officers and the death of another person, believed to have been killed by the same suspect.
Both injured officers were transported to L.A. General Medical Center, one by helicopter and the other by ambulance, as per details from the CBS News Los Angeles report. The fatally wounded officer's identity has yet to be released as authorities work to inform his relatives. Regarding the fallen officer, Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert Lopez said, "Our officer was an amazing man. He was an avid snowboarder, a Dodger fan," reflecting the officer's passions outside the line of duty, a sentiment from ABC7.
The second officer remains hospitalized in stable condition and is surrounded by family, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, who briefed the media at a press conference. Luna confirmed the suspect had been taken into custody in stable condition after being shot by police at the scene. A separate victim was also discovered deceased with gunshot wounds nearby, menacingly, believed to be connected to the suspect's violent spree.
