Over the weekend, the Blaine Police Department's K9 unit took on the challenge at the USPCA Region 12 Patrol Dog Trials in Winona, Minnesota. Officer Reggie Larson took to social media to announce the achievements attained by him and his four-legged partner, K9 Hector. In a post found on the Blaine Police Department's Facebook page, Larson recounted the events of the three-day competition, which saw him, Hector, and Officer Noll taking home commendable spots in both the overall standing and specific event categories.
The trials, which brought together 45 K9 teams, ended with Hector certifying and placing an impressive 6th overall. "He and Ofc. Noll (serving as his decoy) also took 3rd place in Criminal Apprehension (bite work) – a true testament to their hard work and trust in each other," Larson proudly shared.
Larson, who expressed acute surprise, was also the recipient of the esteemed Erik Christensen Award—an accolade honoring the embodiment of USPCA Region 12 values, moral character, and sportsmanship in the advancement of police service dogs. "With so many outstanding people in the K9 world, I never imagined being nominated by my peers," Larson stated in the Facebook announcement, his words underpinning the unexpected honor bestowed upon him by his contemporaries.
Further cementing the department's dedication to excellence, every team from Blaine that participated in the Trial Prep Days passed their certification with what Larson called "a great experience." It's a holistic success, one that not only spotlights individual triumphs but also reflects the larger collaborative spirit of the K9 teams.
