A Bloomington community was shaken by an unsettling incident on Sunday morning when a man was arrested after allegedly setting a mattress on fire and assaulting an adult female victim. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old transient Taylor Moore, who is known to frequent the area, was taken into custody on charges of arson and domestic battery.
According to a statement released by the San Bernardino Sheriff-Coroner Department, deputies responded around 8:32 a.m. following reports of a disturbance in the 10000 block of Cedar Avenue. Upon arrival, they detained Moore and attended to the victim, who, along with her dogs, narrowly escaped harm when Moore lit the mattress they were lying on ablaze. The victim managed to extinguish the fire with a sandal before Moore struck her.
The quick response of local law enforcement led to Moore's arrest, and he was booked into the West Valley Detention Center without further incident. The circumstances leading up to the attack remain under investigation, and authorities have not disclosed a motive.
