Residents eagerly anticipating the start of summer activities at the Bloomington Family Aquatic Center (BFAC) will have to hold on a bit longer. The city announced a setback to the facility's planned opening next Monday, citing the need to address a leak in a pipe beneath the main pool. In a statement released on Wednesday, officials indicated that the popular aquatic center would open no earlier than next Friday, contingent upon the speed of the repairs.
The city's statement detailed that local authorities are diligently working with a contractor specializing in pool leaks to quickly and efficiently assess and perform the necessary fixes. They are optimistic that the issue can be resolved in as little as three to five days; however, they also acknowledged that "if the required repair is more significant, additional time may be needed." Such uncertainty will naturally affect the community's summer routines, a disappointment for many who see the pool as a refreshing escape from the heat.
Bloomington's officials have expressed their commitment to minimizing the inconvenience for residents and seasonal pass holders. During the BFAC's closure from next Monday until Friday, the city has made provisions allowing those with BFAC season passes to use them at the nearby Richfield Outdoor Pool. "Pass holders must show their season pass upon arrival," the city's release specified, ensuring a smooth transition for those looking to cool off in the interim.
For groups who had events scheduled at the BFAC during the impacted dates, the city staff have been tasked to communicate and coordinate alternative arrangements.
