Boston’s weather today is offering little respite from the sweltering temperatures, as the city continues to grapple with an early-season heat wave. The heat index is expected to reach a searing 101 degrees, according to an NBC Boston report, which recommends that residents stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours—while also keeping in mind the welfare of pets and elderly neighbors. A Heat Advisory remains in effect until the evening.
In stark contrast to yesterday's record-breaking 100 degrees that shattered the old high of 95 back in 2013, the National Weather Service forecasts a high of near 92 today, with isolated showers and thunderstorms breaking through the heat, there's a slight chance of fetching a breeze from the Northwest that will swing to the East in the afternoon, providing a subtle, though possibly imperceptible, cooling effect.
Relief from the heat might be on the horizon as NBC Boston notes the oppressive temperatures are poised to plummet, with Boston expecting the mercury to hover in the "cooler" 70s starting Thursday and potentially dipping even further to the upper 60s by Friday, under a shroud of clouds and the occasional drizzle or scatter of showers brought about by a lingering cold front.
As the weekend beckons, the promise of dry spells interleaved with scattered showers comes with a forecast of a mild 70 degrees, though the sun is set to break through once more as Sunday's partly sunny skies escort higher temperatures of near 80, the errant dance of temperature highs and lows charts a course to the familiar warmth of the 80s by the following Monday, marking another turn in New England's ever-turbulent climatic waltz.
