An early morning heist turned into a debacle in Sherman Oaks on Sunday when a man trying to quickly make off with a pickup truck caused numerous accidents in the process. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the suspect was using a red and black tow truck in his attempted theft around 8:37 a.m. on Cumpston Street. Surveillance footage showed the gray pickup truck being hauled off, only to be poorly secured and crash into an unrelated parked white pickup truck, which a neighbor told KTLA belonged to her father-in-law and was totaled.
Despite the initial collision, the suspect attempted to continue to hastily escape, slamming the stolen vehicle into a power pole shortly after. This impact was what it took to detach the bedraggled pickup truck entirely from the tow truck's grasp. According to the CBS News report, the mishap occurred just before 8:40 a.m. and resulted in no immediate arrests. The police are continuing their investigation and have requested that anyone with information come forward.
