Residents and businesses along Nevada Way should anticipate significant construction activity this summer. On Tuesday, the City Council approved a long-anticipated reconstruction project, as announced by the City of Boulder City. The approval followed extensive public engagement, including over 20 outreach efforts, aimed at collecting community feedback on the proposed improvements and parking modifications between Wyoming Street and Colorado Street.

City officials have stated that the project’s primary goals are to improve traffic safety, accessibility, and the flow of movement along the corridor. The project also includes efforts to support local businesses and maintain the area’s existing community character. Construction is scheduled to begin on July 7, during the typically slower business period from July to September. Detours will be in place primarily during overnight hours, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., with work limited to weekdays.

The planned improvements include the full replacement of asphalt that has been in place for 23 years and has been subject to prolonged use and exposure to extreme weather. The project also addresses aging underground infrastructure, including water service lines that are approximately 50 years old. According to the City’s announcement, the work will involve installing 18 new copper water service lines to meet current standards, along with 21 backflow preventers to protect the water system. Additionally, two mainline water valves will be replaced. Combining these upgrades with the street reconstruction is intended to limit the need for separate future repairs and reduce potential disruptions.

Accessibility improvements are included in the project scope, beginning with the addition of a dedicated pedestrian walkway to support safe foot traffic near cafes and storefronts. Sidewalks will be widened to meet ADA and PROWAG standards. The project also includes updated ramps and decorative crosswalks. Parking will be reconfigured with code-compliant striping and a combination of angled and parallel spaces. Three additional accessible parking spaces will be added, increasing the total to six. If completed on schedule, the project will result in 29 additional vehicle parking spaces by September 25. Dedicated bicycle parking will also be included. The project is funded by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada and the City’s Utility Fund.

Businesses along Nevada Way will remain open throughout the project, continuing to serve customers despite the summer conditions and ongoing construction.
