Yesterday, a wildland fire that sparked in Brentwood damaged several structures, including residential homes, and displaced several residents. The blaze, which commenced near Lone Tree Way and Sunrise Drive, required a multi-alarm response involving over 70 fire personnel, according to a report released by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

Shortly after the first alarm was raised at 1:40 PM, more resources were called to the scene for wildland and structure fire suppression as homes were threatened. The Contra Costa Fire Protection District organized an expanded incident command system to manage the escalating situation effectively. Capable of managing both the structure protection and the rapid spread across dry fuels, Copter 1 provided critical air support, making multiple water drops.

The immediate threats to nearby residences initiated a swift reaction from the responding units, which, being staffed with an additional firefighter per engine company, leapt into action, providing structure protection and tactical support. The result of these efforts, as reported by the Contra Costa Fire Protection District, was that no primary homes were ultimately lost despite several being in the path of the fire. "Upon arrival, first units confirmed that the fire had extended into multiple structures," the report detailed.

As per the incident report, two residential homes and two accessory dwelling units, along with various outbuildings, including sheds and kennels, suffered the brunt of the damage. Six adults had to seek other accommodations following the event, and one individual was transported with minor injuries during evacuation efforts. Crews persisted on the scene into the evening to assess the damage and ensure the fire was thoroughly extinguished.

The investigation into what caused the fire is still underway. Local police departments, utility companies, and the Red Cross were among the assisting agencies listed in the Contra Costa Fire Protection District's document.
