Two juveniles were taken into custody by Brighton police last Friday, connected to multiple break-ins at a property on Cambridge Street. Officers from District D-14 (Brighton/Allston) responded to a distress signal, leading them to apprehend a pair of teenagers, aged 16 and 17, at a local school building.
At around 8:59 p.m. last Friday, the police arrived at the scene following a triggered commercial alarm. A careful inspection of the building's exterior was performed, and they stumbled upon the duo attempting to conceal themselves in the basement. Both were subsequently detained after attempting to exit via a rear door. The Boston Police Department reports this incident follows an earlier break-in at the same location last Thursday, which also prompted police intervention; however, no suspects were located during the previous event.
This wasn’t the first visit officers had made to 617 Cambridge Street. The property had reportedly been targeted on five separate occasions, with the initial pair of incidents already under investigation. A review of security tapes eventually linked the juveniles to the act of vandalism on the school's security system.
Following their capture, both suspects faced arraignment in Boston Juvenile Court facing charges related to breaking and entering, as well as additional counts specific to each individual. The 16-year-old was charged with "delinquent to wit: Breaking and Entering Building at Nighttime for a Felony" and "delinquent to wit: Trespass with a Motor Vehicle", while the 17-year-old faced "delinquent to wit: Breaking and Entering Building at Nighttime for a Felony" and "delinquent to wit: Possession of Burglarious Instrument", as detailed by the Boston Police Department's release.
