A discovery unfolded in Ann Arbor Township, Washtenaw County, where a burned body was located in the proximity of a semi-truck crash. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident, which had been initially reported as a single-vehicle crash on Whitmore Lake Road, just north of M-14, on Wednesday afternoon, The Detroit News reported.

Upon arrival around 3:47 p.m., authorities discovered the truck in a ditch and, prompted by witness reports, found a fire on a nearby hill. Commander Eugene Rush from the sheriff's office remarked, "It's very suspicious. The truck being unoccupied, the body being burned, and just not having any answers, so it's pretty suspicious," in a statement obtained by CBS News Detroit. The identity of the male victim, including his race and age, could not be discerned due to the condition of the body.

The situation raises more questions than it answers, as investigators work to determine whether the deceased male was the missing semi driver or another individual. Autopsy results are expected to clarify whether the cause of death was related to the burns sustained. "We know that witnesses passing by saw the truck on the side of the road then they saw flames at the top of the hill," Cmdr. Rush told FOX 2 Detroit. As the investigation proceeds, the use of an accelerant has not been ruled out.

Local residents have reportedly not recognized the vehicle, which adds another layer of mystery to the case. Cmdr. Rush has asked that anyone with information related to the crash, the vehicle, the driver, or the body to contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office at 734-994-2911.
