The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office recently shared some heartening news. Their Volunteer Unit has been recognized as the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year. The commendation comes straight from the legislative chambers, specifically District 4 Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, who saw fit to honor these everyday Samaritans with the 2025 Senate Resolution Award, as reported by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
The Volunteer Unit, since its formation in 1989, has continued to show up, expanding to quickly become integral in various facets of community aid. They’ve committed to extensively invest their time in the community, logging over 16,000 hours and driving their personal vehicles for more than 27,000 miles in 2024 alone, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
As the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office posted on their Facebook page, "Their time, care, and service help build stronger, more trusting relationships with the people we serve." The volunteers' contributions span from the mundane but necessary tasks of maintaining equipment to the essential public services of traffic directing and neighborhood patrolling. This award honors the volunteers of Calaveras County and all who give their time to help others. Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil’s recognition shows the community’s deep appreciation for the Volunteer Unit’s dedication and service.
