A 50-year-old hiker visiting from California encountered more adventure than planned while exploring Waipo‘o Falls Trail in Kōke‘e State Park last Sunday. The trek took an unexpected turn when the hiker sustained a shoulder injury, necessitating a swift response from the Kaua‘i Fire Department, according to the County of Kaua'i.
Reports confirmed by the County of Kaua'i state that emergency services were alerted to the hiker's plight shortly before 1 p.m. The lifesaving crew, aboard Air 1 from Līhu‘e Fire Station, was dispatched posthaste to deliver aid to the stricken adventurer.
Upon arrival, the rescuers found the hiker with an apparent shoulder injury. After providing first aid and stabilizing the injury, firefighters transported the hiker by Air 1 to a landing zone at Porters. The subsequent handoff involved Waimea Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response who took over to provide further medical care, as per the County of Kaua'i. The scene was cleared by 2:15 p.m., giving testament to the efficiency and coordination of local emergency services in face of the unexpected.
