A Canadian County man with a history of felony convictions has been sentenced to a 10-year stint in federal prison for illegal possession of firearms, in a case that highlights the intersection of gun control and domestic violence. Julian Paul Glazier, 26, found himself on the wrong side of the law after a December incident involving a pregnant woman and an emergency call that turned out to be a ploy for help.

According to information from a U.S. Attorney's Office press release, Glazier's previous convictions include unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The troubled history added gravity to his latest offense at a Yukon residence, where he held a woman at gunpoint and later attempted to hide his firearms from first responders who believed they were there to aid her with a medical issue.

On May 2, Glazier entered a guilty plea for Count 1 of the indictment and acknowledged that his prior convictions barred him from firearm possession. "This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice program to reduce violent crime," noted the U.S. Attorney's Office. Additionally, this prosecution fell under "Operation 922," the Western District of Oklahoma's implementation of PSN specifically targeting federal crimes connected to domestic violence.

U.S. District Judge Charles B. Goodwin reflected on the nature of the offense and Glazier's criminal past before sentencing him on May 29. "Assistant U.S. Attorney Danielle M. Connolly prosecuted the case," as stated in the U.S. Attorney's Office press release. Glazier's 120-month prison term will be followed by three years of supervised release.
