A Cedarburg domestic disturbance escalated into a tactical operation at a local business on Sunday, triggering a multi-agency response and road closures, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. The incident began with a call to the Cedarburg Police Department at around 12:22 p.m. regarding a 50-year-old man who was alleged to have been drinking, issuing threats, and loading ammunition at a home on Wilshire Drive in City of Cedarburg.
Before police could arrive, the suspect had already left the scene. It was feared, according to the call received, that he may have been carrying a handgun. Shortly after, at approximately 12:39 p.m., law enforcement located the suspect's vehicle at The Hamilton at Cedar Creek. The establishment quickly evacuated while officers set a perimeter, finding the man as the sole occupant inside after the evacuation.
Despite efforts to negotiate, the suspect reportedly refused to comply with law enforcement. Communication was established over the phone, but failed to persuade the individual to surrender. The standoff continued until 3:04 p.m. when the man came out of the rear door of The Hamilton, continuing to display aggressive behavior towards officers.
Law enforcement then decided to deploy less-lethal options—PepperBall rounds and a Taser. This was to safely take the man into custody, as stated by the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. The individual was detained with no serious injuries reported and was provided with medical evaluation at the scene. He is set to be brought to the Ozaukee County Jail, with criminal charges pending.
The incident caused significant disruption around Hamilton Road and Green Bay Road, which remained closed for roughly three and a half hours following the event. Traffic resumed normally around 4:15 p.m., as updated by officials. The Cedarburg Police Department, Grafton Police Department, Mequon Police Department, Saukville Police Department, Cedarburg Fire Department, Cedarburg Emergency Government, Ozaukee County Emergency Management, and the Ozaukee County Drone Team were among the agencies that provided support during the incident.
