
A routine afternoon took an unexpected turn at Blaker-Kinder Junior High School's parking lot in Ceres, California, when a School Resource Officer experienced a firearm mishap. The Ceres Police Department reported that the officer's holstered weapon discharged due to what is believed to be a malfunction. This incident occurred on June 24, at approximately 12:50 p.m., at the junior high school located on 1601 Kinser Road.
The officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was wounded in her leg and subsequently transported to a hospital to receive medical treatment. The injury was described as non-life-threatening. Fortunately, with summer school having wrapped up for the day, and only a limited number of students and staff on site, no one else was harmed during the event. The Ceres Police Department emphasized that "no students or staff members were in close proximity to the officer when the incident occurred, and no other individuals were injured."
As the investigation unfolds, the Ceres Police Detectives Unit is heading the inquiry into the cause of the discharge. The detective unit has not yet provided any updates on the potential reasons behind the firearm malfunction or any manufacturer defects that might have been a contributing factor.
