A recent incident has shaken the Charlotte community as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) investigates a tragic collision that resulted in the death of a young dirt bike rider. According to the CMPD's public release, 12-year-old Mike Malanda lost his life in a vehicle crash at Oakdale Road at Auten Road intersection. The event unfolded yesterday when North Division officers responded to a call reporting a vehicle collision with injuries at approximately 1:06 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, a disheartening sight met the first responders, discovering the unresponsive male rider on the roadway alongside a damaged dirt bike and a damaged Ford truck. Despite the quick response, MEDIC pronounced Malanda deceased at the scene. Riding a dirt bike, struck by the Ford truck, Malanda was engaging in a pastime that cost him his life too soon.
