In observance of Juneteenth, the City of Charlotte has announced there will be no residential curbside garbage, recycling, yard waste, or scheduled bulky waste collection on Thursday. The City's Solid Waste Services confirmed the disruption, with the recognition that the day marks a crucial moment in history.
Adjustments have been made to the regular schedule to accommodate the holiday. Residents who typically expect their waste to be collected on Thursday will now have to wait until Friday for their items to be picked up. And not to leave Friday folks hanging, their collections are pushed to Saturday with the recent announcement published by the City of Charlotte. Even time, we are reminded, takes a backseat to remembrance.
To ensure that no confusion arises, residents can verify their revised collection days through the city’s tool, My Charlotte Lookup. By simply typing one's address, service days, and whether one is on an orange or green recycling week can be ascertained - a logistical necessity in the often mundane but essential world of waste management.
Further aiding communication, Solid Waste Services has instated a text update system. "Residents who would like to receive updates regarding impacts to their collection service can text their day of service to 73224," according to a statement from the City's website. For example, those with Thursday as their pickup day would text "Thursday" to 73224. This approach to staying informed keeps Charlotteans one step ahead, even when schedules fall victim to change.
