A grave incident unfolded in Monroe as a woman tragically lost her life to a hit-and-run event early this past Sunday, with Monroe Police Department confirming the arrest of a China Grove man in relation to the crime. QC News reports that at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a distressing scene at the intersection of W. Roosevelt Blvd. and Morgan Mill Road, where they discovered 59-year-old Carolina Sanchez-Villa unconscious and unresponsive, her life slipping away at the hands of an unknown assailant.
The emergency response failed to revive her, and she was pronounced dead from the injuries sustained, after the unknown vehicle had struck her and fled, leaving questions and a tapestry of sorrow woven into the early morning hours for those involved in the life of Sanchez-Villa. Russell McCall Jr., aged 33, was later detained in Rowan County, as stated in a social media post by the Monroe Police Department; he now faces charges of felony hit and run causing serious injury or death and driving with a revoked license, with a bond set at $50,000.
The suspect was booked into the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, and the gravity of the offence has raised concerns within the community about the dangers of reckless driving and the consequences that follow such unacceptable conduct.
