Yesterday morning, a fire broke out in the West Price Hill neighborhood, leading to the displacement of twelve residents, including four children, and a dog. According to LOCAL12, the fire began with an alleged mattress and quickly caused estimated damages of around $100,000. Firefighters received the call at about 7:32 a.m. and were faced with heavy smoke upon arrival at the single-family residence on 1st Avenue.
Despite the extensive damage to the home, there were no injuries reported among either the civilians or the 44 firefighters who responded to the scene. The quick response from the Cincinnati Fire Department allowed for the blaze to be extinguished within 15 minutes of their arrival. According to FOX19, the smoke detectors in the home were operational, which likely aided in the prompt evacuation and response.
District Fire Chief Matthew Rotert revealed that the Red Cross had been notified to assist the displaced family in the aftermath of the incident. As noted by WLWT, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, but investigations are ongoing by the Cincinnati Fire Department's Fire Investigation Unit. The community is coming together to provide support for the affected individuals during a challenging time.
