With the approach of Independence Day, the Citrus Heights Police Department is making a plea to the community: forego illegal fireworks. In a recent Facebook post, the Citrus Heights Police Department emphasized safety and legality with a succinct message: "KEEP IT SAFE, KEEP IT LEGAL."
As of May 23, a new rule in Citrus Heights brings much tougher penalties for having illegal fireworks. If you're caught, fines start at $1,000 for the first offense, rise to $2,500 for the second, and go up to $5,000 for any more violations within the same year. Property owners can also be fined if they allow illegal fireworks to be set off on their property—or even on nearby sidewalks or streets next to their property, as reported by the Citrus Heights Police Department.
Citizens who wish to report any unlawful displays or violations it can be done through the SeeClickFix app or by dialing the non-emergency police number at 916-727-5500. For those looking for a spectacle without the risk of legal trouble or safety hazards, the Citrus Heights Police Department extends an invitation to the family-friendly Stars and Stripes event scheduled for June 28 at Van Maren Park.
