In a move to actively engage young minds during the school break, Clark County officials have announced a summer program that promises to be both an educational and recreational boon for students. Commissioners Justin Jones and Tick Segerblom, in a collaborative effort with the Vegas Force Foundation and other community partners, are rolling out the C.O.O.L. (Community. Outreach. Opportunity. Leadership.) Summer Program. Addressing a pressing need for accessible summer activities for the youth in Clark County, the program is set to take place at Clark High School and is tailored for students aged 12 to 18, as reported by the Clark County Government.
According to a statement obtained by the Clark County Government's news release, Commissioner Justin Jones highlighted the significance of the program, especially for families in densely populated apartment areas. "In apartment-dense areas like the neighborhoods surrounding Clark High School, families often face limited access to safe, enriching summer programs,” Jones remarked. Chairman Tick Segerblom also expressed concerns about the lack of supportive summer activities in such communities, emphasizing that the C.O.O.L. Summer Program is designed to quickly provide not just fun but also foundational life skills and mentorship for the kids.
The program's itinerary is comprehensive, spanning from June 23 to July 18, and operates from Monday to Friday during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It caters to 150 students, providing them with free access to an array of daily activities including sports, leadership games, and creative arts classes. Moreover, the program thoughtfully includes programs for younger siblings, aged 6 to 11, ensuring that families can fully benefit from the range of services on offer, as detailed by the Clark County Government.
One key aspect is the additional services, which are essential for extending the program's reach and impact within the community. Youth programming for younger children, aftercare facilitated at the Lied Memorial Boys & Girls Club with transportation included, and a weekly community resource fair are set to enrich the participants' experience. The resource fair, held on Fridays, presents an opportunity for students and families to easily connect with local services and organizations, fostering a stronger community network, as reported by the Clark County Government.

Summer Program stands as an innovative response to the needs of Clark County's youth, offering a safe, educational, and engaging environment for growth and development, as per the Clark County Government.
