Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been cited on two separate occasions for speeding infractions on Interstate 71, according to multiple reports. In the most recent incident, Sanders was stopped by Strongsville police for driving 101 mph in a 60 mph zone just a day after failing to appear in court for a previous speeding ticket. WWNYTV first reported the information today.
The earlier incident involved Sanders allegedly speeding through Brunswick Hills Township at 91 mph in a 65 mph zone on June 5. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed the stop to The Post, which resulted in a $150 fine and additional court costs, raising the total to $249. However, Sanders reportedly did not show up for the arraignment related to this stop scheduled on Monday. The NYPost contains details on the infraction and the ensuing missed court date.
A bodycam video from the second incident was reported to have shown interaction between Sanders and the arresting officer, where the latter remarked, "You should have given this to me earlier, I already wrote the ticket." The video also caught an officer letting a woman go without a ticket, believed to be in a relationship with Sanders. The item Sanders handed to the officer and the exchange with Cleveland Browns Berea Security Manager John Boykin were noted, but remain unclear. This was according to coverage on WWNYTV.
Despite the legal troubles, the Browns quarterback was described as polite and cooperative during the encounter, with one officer remarking that Sanders had been "cool" with him. On the scene, Sanders and the woman were reportedly driving separately, the woman at 92 mph, but the officer stated on the bodycam footage that they could not similarly overlook Sanders' offense because it was recorded on the dashcam. This incident is set to be addressed in court on July 3. The Browns organization has acknowledged the situation, stating that Sanders is "taking care of the tickets" and has discussed the citations with him, as told to the NYPost.
