On the tail of a vigilant community report, Vallejo authorities were recently led to a pursuit and eventual arrest of a man alleged to be carrying a large unregistered firearm near a local homeless camp. According to a social media post by the Vallejo Police Department, the incident transpired on Monday, when patrol officers responded to a call on the 1600 block of Broadway Street.

An eyewitness reported seeing a man with a sizable gun in the vicinity of an encampment behind a medical facility. The man reportedly returned without the weapon and drove away in an identifiable white Honda CR-V with a missing rear window. When officers located the said vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the unnamed driver led them on a chase before ditching the car and fleeing on foot into the camp, where he attempted to elude capture by changing his clothes.

However, with assistance from the California Highway Patrol Air Unit, the suspect's movements were tracked from above. As stated by the Vallejo Police Department, "The suspect didn't realize that there were eyes in the sky. Our officers moved in and quickly apprehended the suspect without further incident." The subsequent search, based on information provided by the suspect post-Miranda rights advisement, led to the recovery of the loaded firearm.

The car, which had been reported stolen out of Suisun, and other evidence, including the firearm and associated ammunition, were processed and booked. The suspect is now facing multiple felony charges, from possession by a felon to vehicle theft and felony evasion.
